Long Island Fall Hiking - Laffey Real Estate

Fall is officially here on Long Island. For some, that means a welcome return of pumpkin spice lattes and hot apple cider. For our real estate agents, it means perfect weather to head outdoors and do some exploring.

Long Island is blessed with some of the most splendid hiking trails in the Northeast, with quiet forests and peaceful gardens that give hikers throughout the region ample opportunity to explore. Be sure to check out some of these favorite fall hiking spots around Long Island this season.

  • Trail View State Park - 8101 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY
This 400-acre, 7.4-mile linear park is a fantastic hiking destination that creates a link between Cold Spring Harbor State Park on the north shore to Bethpage State Park on the south shore. Trail View State Park offers rolling terrain and serene views, with opportunities for hiking, jogging, and cycling. The southern section is open to pets as well, and the park's location under the Atlantic Flyway makes it a favorite spot for bird watching. You can access the park at several points, including along the Jericho Turnpike near these Woodbury homes for sale

  • Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail - Massapequa, NY to Woodbury, NY
Completed in 1986 and granted National Recreation Trail status in 1992, the Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail is an amazing resource for hikers on Long Island. The 15-mile section from Massapequa to Woodbury offers well-maintained trail through a wide variety of landscapes, from shady woods and open meadows to quiet residential communities.

  • Caumsett State Park - 25 Lloyd Harbor Road, Lloyd Harbor, NY
Even though Caumsett State Historic Park and Preserve is most famous for its historic English-style manor and estate, this park is also a prime destination for hikers. Nestled on a scenic peninsula extending into Long Island Sound, the park offers many miles of picturesque trails just minutes from these Lloyd Harbor homes for sale. Brilliant fall foliage makes this a particularly great time to explore the gardens and forests around the rambling estate.

  • Blydenburgh County Park - Veteran's Memorial Highway, Smithtown, NY
Blydenburgh County Park offers 627 acres of richly forested hills and valleys surrounding the headwaters of the Nissequogue River. Within this landscape, you'll find many miles of hiking trails, as well as great opportunities for fishing, bird watching, camping, and horseback riding. The park's vast stands of mature trees take on spectacular hues in fall, making this arguably the best season to explore this hidden gem. Blydengurgh County Park is located near these Smithtown homes for sale and is open year-round to Suffolk County residents and their guests.

  • Avalon Park and Preserve - Harbor Road, Stony Brook, NY
Located right around the corner from many Stony Brook homes for sale, this park is truly a unique place to connect with the natural world. Avalon Park and Preserve was designed to recreate the Long Island landscape as it would have looked before even the first indigenous people arrived in New York. With several paths, trails, and boardwalks that meander through five distinct ecosystems, this park offers guided and self-guided hikes from dawn to dusk.

  • Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve - 528 Commack Road, Deer Park, NY
Offering a beautifully preserved portion of a rare New York ecosystem, Edgewood Oak Brush Plains Preserve spans more than 800 acres and includes 23 miles of trails and roads open to hiking. Keep an eye out for warblers and red-tailed hawks along the 2.7 mile Edgewood Blue Hiking Trail, just minutes from Deer Park homes for sale

Long Island is a special place, with endless wide-open spaces to explore, along with the close proximity of New York City. Contact us today to learn more about life on Long Island.
